The soil beneath our feet supplies sand, gravel and clay. The subsurface is the foundation for infrastructure and dikes. And we use the subsurface as extra space so that we can house more functions in a particular area. Deltares has the expertise relating to all these subsurface issues.
The combination of these different areas of expertise generates innovative solutions. We combine the geological structure of the subsurface with an understanding of dredging and sand production. We apply our understanding of urban groundwater in conjunction with our knowledge about soil to the creation of infrastructure. An understanding of geotechnology and foundations is essential during construction activities on and in soft subsurfaces. It allows risks to be managed better.
Economic activities can result in the contamination of the subsurface. Deltares maps out the risks for soil quality and advises about remediation.
