Training

Deltares will normally install a fully operational Flood Forecasting System in combination with a comprehensive training programme on the operation and maintenance of the system. On request the users can receive in-depth training on the different Delft-FEWS modules. During this training the user will learn how to add new models to the system and how to customise the Flood Forecasting System independently.

Training is an important instrument for providing the necessary knowledge to use, manage and maintain the Flood Forecasting System to its full extent. Deltares has developed a series of courses that support the introduction and maintenance of a Flood Forecasting System based on Delft-FEWS. These courses are described briefly hereafter.

Users course

This 3-day course introduces forecasters into the use of a Delft-FEWS application. By the end of the course, participants should be able to run the forecasting system independently.

Configuration course

This 10-day course introduces super users into the setup and configuration of a Delft-FEWS application. By the end of the course, participants should be able to setup and operationalise a forecasting system with Delft-FEWS from scratch, add new models and make changes to existing configurations.

System management and troubleshooting course

This course introduces system managers (from IT department) into all aspects of installing, management and supporting the middleware and application software.

Each training course will consist of presentations by the trainer(s), demonstrations and a large amount of exercises to provide the participants ‘hands-on’ experience. Training materials are largely available but will be modified to include details of the specific Delft-FEWS application.
