National Groundwater Modelling System (NGMS) for England and Wales
assignment/short description
To facilitate and enhance the use of groundwater models, Deltares has assisted the Environment
Agency (EA) with implementing the National Groundwater Modeling System (NGMS). The main
reasons for the EA to create the NGMS was to improve and simplify the use of models by the operational
staff and in the same time create a uniformity in groundwater management with the different
regions.
Before NGMS the groundwater models were only available on stand-alone machines, often away
from local operational staff. To see the effect of certain measures in the groundwater and to use
the model for regulatory needs, the operational staff was dependent on the groundwater modeller.
Thus making these questions time consuming and minimizing the knowledge of operationall staff
about the models.
