assignment/short description
One of the important impacts of climate change may be an accelerated sea level rise (ASLR). Estimations of the degree of sea level rise for the next 100 years vary between 0.3 and 1.0 meter. Vietnam has a large coastal fringe with the land level of extensive areas near the mean sea level, making the country particularly susceptible to the impacts of sea level rise. For this reason, the Vietnamese Government decided to embark upon an assessment of the vulnerability of its coastal areas to an accelared rise of the sea level. This Vulnerability Assessement (VA) was conducted along the lines of the Common Methodology established for such studies by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The focus of this project was to support, guide and strenghten Vietnamese capabilities in facing the complex technical , institutional and organisational matters involved in the effective management of the Vietnamese coastal zone. The General Deparment of International Cooperation of The Netherlands Ministery of Foreign Affairs (DGIS) provided the project with key financial support. The project was executed under a trilateral collaboration agreement between the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Poland and The Netherlands.
