Perspectives in Integrated Water Resources Management
assignment/short description
The aim of this research project is to develop a method to find the most sustainable water management strategy for lowland rivers and their deltas, given the uncertain future. We will do this by exploring transient scenarios (‘storylines’) for three deltas over the forthcoming century, in which we explicitly consider the interactions between the physical and social components of the water system using an Integrated Assessment Meta Model. We will analyze the mechanisms and controls of changes in water management in response to climate, social and/or socio-economic events and trends. From the resulting story lines, we will determine strategies that are sustainable under a range of different futures.
The study is executed by a project team of employees from University Utrecht, Deltares, University Maastricht-ICIS, Carthago Consultancy, KNMI, Pantopicon, University Twente and runs from 2008 to 2012.
