The National Flood Forecasting System (NFFS) comprises the complete fluvial and coastal
flood forecasting capability of the Environment Agency for England & Wales. The NFFS has
been developed by Deltares with subcontractor Tessella Scientific Software Solutions (UK).
Since October 2005, NFFS is fully operational for three regions in England & Wales. With
another five regions, the countrywide operationalisation is expected to have been completed in
September 2006.
The NFFS has been implemented with Delft-FEWS. Delft-FEWS is a fully configurable generic
shell with open interfaces to a wide range of hydrological and hydraulic models, and a large
number of time series and grid data formats.
