New release of UNIBEST-CL+ model
A new version of the UNIBEST-CL+ coastline model (version 7) is available now. The model can be used to assess coastal changes on wave dominated longshore uniform coasts. A typical application is the analysis of the large scale morphology of coastal systems to provide insight into the causes of coastal erosion or to predict the impact of planned coastal infrastructure (such as a port) on the coast. Since the runs are very time-efficient, with a properly set up model various scenarios can be evaluated and sensitivity analyses can be carried out.
User friendliness is improved significantly in the new release, as model input can be provided in a graphical user interface. This interface is based on the MapObjects GIS and Mapping components by ESRI, which allows users to work more time-efficient, accurate and flexible. The main extra functionality (relative to Version 6) is:
Interactive setup of a coastline model (CL-module):
- Use GIS functionalities (MapObjects) that allow for importing background layers (like geo-referenced satellite images and maps, SHAPE, AutoCAD, Land boundary and Grid files)
- Directly define coastlines and structures on an imported map or image
- Make animations of coastline changes
- Use powerful features to visualize coastline changes (graphs), also during the running of the model
Easier setup of longshore transport computations:
- Interactive setup and visualization of cross-shore profiles
- Improved interface for interactive computations
Improved interface tools with Delft3D, allowing for:
- Extraction of wave conditions from a Delft3D-WAVE (SWAN) computation
- Visualisation of the wave conditions computed by a Delft3D-WAVE computation
- Generation of WAVE grid and bottom files based on the UNIBEST model
- Generation of FLOW grid and bottom files based on the UNIBEST model
- Visualisation of the SWAN & FLOW grid and bottom files
