Construction in an urban conglomeration of buildings and infrastructure is a complex matter involving many risks. Deltares has a thorough understanding of these risks. By combining scientific knowledge, many years of practical experience and in-depth forensic expertise, we can minimize the risks during the design and realization phase.

Soil is an uncertain factor in every building project, as we can never completely predict its behaviour. Risks are especially high in urban areas. Buildings and infrastructure are packed closely together and a calamity can cause a lot of damage varying from subsidence to more indirect damage such as delay, compensation and image damage.

Deltares has the know-how to keep risks to a minimum. We are experts in the field of uncertainties related to soil, the interaction between soil and constructions and the resulting consequences. Our specialists are not only scientifically strong, but also experienced in putting their expertise into practice, thereby reducing (failure) costs considerably.

Forecasting models

Our clients also benefit from innovations achieved through the many research projects that Deltares conducts together with universities. We are often first in The Netherlands to apply newly developed forecasting models and tools in the field of ground mechanics and foundation techniques - tools for building in a more controlled, safer and therefore, more economical way.

Knowledge is essential. However, the application of this knowledge at the right time and in the right way, is of overriding importance. Risk and process management is the backbone of our approach. We engineer, design and advise in advance but also afterwards, in case of calamities. Deltares is the Dutch expert in the field of forensic engineering.

Innovations are realized by developing knowledge, but especially by actively sharing it. Deltares shares its knowledge by means of software development, courses and workshops.
