Water industry
Deltares has a history of more than 50 years in providing special services to the drinking water industry around the world. Our position in the market is a specialist consultant on all hydrodynamic issues in the Water Industry. These services include
- innovative (experimental) research and development
- software development
- specialist advice
- training courses
- field measurements for commissioning
- drafting of guidelines and support on troubleshooting and incidents
This wide range of services on hydrodynamics in pipeline systems is unique in the world
Innovations and contract research
Deltares supports companies to develop prototype installations with our in-depth knowledge on fluid dynamics, control systems and multi-phase flow phenomena. As an example, we have performed a feasibility study on a new ceramic membrane vessel, designed by PWN, a Dutch water company. For Waternet, we have developed the control systems of the innovative booster stations in pressurised wastewater mains, which prevented large open pump pits in down-town Amsterdam. We also set-up and carry out joint industry projects, such as the research project on capacity reducing air pockets in downward sloping pipelines for the Dutch water industry.
Specialist advice
We use in-house developed advanced flow simulation software, WANDA, to analyse the steady and dynamic behaviour of fluids in pipe systems. These analyses focus on the safe, robust and energy-efficient operation of a drinking water network, pressurised wastewater system or a treatment plant in the Netherlands or abroad.
Training
Deltares provides several training courses on Hydrodynamics of Pipeline Systems. Most courses are given in Dutch on a yearly basis (in English on demand). The following courses are organised:
- Dynamic behaviour (waterhammer, pressure surges, control dynamics)
- Course on pumps, valves and hydraulic resistances
- WANDA Training
- Dedicated training courses for international clients, compiled from the above "standard courses"
